Mahasiswa Kembali Demo Tolak Omnibus Law

KEDIRI – Demonstrasi menolak ditetapkannya UU omnibus law terus terjadi.

Students Again Demonstration Against Omnibus Law

KEDIRI – Demonstrations against the enactment of the omnibus law continue to occur. Hundreds of students who are members of the Kediri Branch of the Indonesian Islamic Student Movement (PMII), returned to demonstrate. This time, they carried out the action in front of the Kediri Regency DPRD office, Monday (12/10/2020). This demonstration is a continuation of the previous demonstration that was held at the Kediri City DPRD office.
They carried out their actions with speeches containing condemnation of DPR members who passed the Omnibus law which was deemed to be detrimental to the people. They also carried banners and posters with their demands. During the action, tires burned in the middle of the road and theatrical.
The demonstration was colored by pushing each other with the police. They tried to push into the courtyard of the DPRD building. However detained by police barricades. But the action of pushing each other didn’t last long. The reason is that several representatives of DPRD members are willing to meet them, including Muhaimin, deputy chairman of DPRD from PAN, Zaini from Democrats, Masykur Lukman from PKB, Antox Prapungka Jaya from NasDem, Wasis from PDIP, and so on.
The students immediately submitted their letter of demands to the DPRD to be submitted to the Indonesian Parliament and the President. They also asked the DPRD members to participate in rejecting the Omnibus law, giving signatures of approval on the rejection letters that had been written by the students.
After discussing for a while, the DPRD members initially agreed to refuse by adding their handwriting to the back of the rejection letter that had been written by the students. However, when it was about to be signed, they suddenly stopped. They want to change from agreeable to knowing language. No doubt, the tension returned. Finally, the DPRD members asked for an hour to have an internal discussion. With no immediate response, the situation heated up again. The situation subsided again after the chairman of the DPRD Dodi Purwanto met them.
Dodi Purwanto explained, rejecting or accepting the aspirations of the law that has been enacted, is not the domain of the Kediri Regency DPRD. When it has been stipulated as a law, to change it must go through a judicial review at the Constitutional Court. The capacity of DPRD only absorbs the aspirations of the masses to accommodate and write a cover letter to the President and a copy to the DPR RI. “Unless what is being demanded is the Regional Regulation, the domain is here (DPRD Kediri, red),” said Dodi.
Meanwhile, Chairman of PMII Kediri Branch, Muhamamad Khadikul Fikri, explained that the government had completely revoked the Omnibus law. He was disappointed with the attitude of the Kediri Regency Government and DPRD that they did not want to reject the Omnibus Law. “In Jogja, the Jogjakarta government is willing to reject the Omnibus law,” he said.
Fikri also assessed that the issuance of the Omnibus law shows that the Jokowi regime does not trust the capabilities of its own nation. So that in many cases development involves foreign investors. (sul / mam)
